Filing is one of my specialities - turning "unlit bonfires" into working systems. Go on put down the matches and get in touch. Then go outside and enjoy the spectacles of Bonfire Night!

Today sees "Mischief Night"

The 4 November is known as Mischief Night in some parts of the country. This is the night when all sorts of naughty things are done - the main idea being to put things in the wrong place. If either things are in the wrong place or you think one of those pesky little Mischief Night pixies is at work then call me and let me put everything right! Don’t have a “boo” moment when the clocks go back!

This weekend sees Halloween and the clocks going back one hour. But dont make the clock going back a horrific event – use that extra hour to think about how to make things better for yourself – craving the extra hour to have an extra treat is great but if you spend it worrying about needing more time ... then I am the person to call.
So remember clocks go back at 2am on Sunday 31 October and Happy Halloween!
Did you know we've been changing our clocks forwards and backwards in the UK since 1916. A builder from Kent called William Willett first proposed the idea of British Summer Time in 1907 in a pamphlet entitled 'The Waste of Daylight'. Willett had noticed that the summer mornings light was wasted while people slept, and that the time would be better utilised in the afternoon by putting the clocks forward.

But lets change your days for the better – don’t drown in work ... get your life back ... call in help! Make today the day you call me and see what I can do to make your days shorter and your free time longer.

Illuminate your life!

Do you feel your desk is full of dark shadowy piles of paper – with the most important paperwork hiding in the furthest corner? Add some light ...! This week the seaside town of Blackpool switches on its illuminations – brightening up the seafront with lights. Why not add some light to your workload – call in the help of a freelance secretary like me to help turn the dark shadowy piles of paper into a nice light organised office area for you.

Do you need a holiday?

Why not use a freelance secretary to give you a perfect summer holiday? Non-permanent and freelance secretaries are being used more and more by individuals and small businesses. Even in the current economic climate people need to have someone to help with their admin – or even just at this time of year someone to give them time away from the office! With the summer holidays approaching many are wondering how they will deal with their time away from the office as they may not have sufficient cover in place to provide a back up whilst they take a well earned break. This is where freelance secretaries like me come into their own. Unlike an employment or temp agency I work on a completely flexible basis providing as much or as little cover as is needed – go on make that call and take that break! There is a bank holiday weekend looming - go on have that well deserved break!

Do you have that sinking feeling around celebration time?

  • Do you have that sinking feeling around celebration time - just no time to enjoy yourself?
  • Do you tell people you are out celebrating so you can spend the day in doors without interruptions and do that filing?
  • Do you end up putting the paperwork in the box you got your present in to make it go away?
  • Do you end up making last minute phone calls for DJs, cakes, etc since you cant find that number you were given ...?
  • Do you suddenly find that particular friend’s telephone number the day after the party since you couldn’t find it earlier?

If you say yes to these or any other similar questions then do not panic anymore. I can help. I offer hourly rates and also a FREE 30 minute visit during which time we can discuss your needs – be it just a case of simply sorting out your household filing or whether this goes deeper and you have a small home business (whatever that may be it all involves paperwork – even paperless offices do that!)

I am enjoying an early finish to my work week. I am able to take time out to celebrate my birthday since my paperwork is all sorted and I can rest assured that everything that should have been dealt with has been - and if not it is in my “in tray” for my return. Just think with my help for just a few hours you would also be able to make decisions to take time off to celebrate your special days – and enjoy the summer days ahead (being they dry or liquid sunshine filled days)

St Swithin's Day - Rain or Shine - dont ignore that paperwork

St. Swithin's Day is 15 July, a day on which people watch the weather for tradition says that whatever the weather is like on St. Swithin's Day, it will continue so for the next forty days. Its folklore but a fun day to watch the weather. There is another old saying though that when it rains on St. Swithin's Day, it is the Saint christening the apples. Apple growers ask St. Swithin for his blessing each year because they believe:
•Rain on St. Swithin's day 'blesses and christens the apples'.
•No apple should picked or eaten before July 15th.
•Apples still growing at St Swithin's day will ripen fully.

But whatever the weather lots of people put work to one side saying they will do it on a rainy day ... but even when we have rainy days its hard to do those jobs. So why not let someone do it for you ...
  • If you find you are constantly searching for your car papers whenever its insurance or MOT time
  • Unable to find THAT receipt
  • Just need that one day to make a dent in all that paperwork

Then struggle no more give me a call. I offer hourly rates and reduced rates for contracts or retainers. So whether you want me for just a few hours, a day, a week ... I can help you to get on top of that paperwork.

Then whether it is a rainy day or a sunny day - the day is your own to do what you want without having to close your eyes as you pass that pile of papers looking longingly at you ...

Here comes the sun - so it is time to work or play?

Whenever the sun shines its time to make that age old decision "Do I work or do I play?" For large organisations this is an easy decision since there are plenty of people around. Smaller companies or one-man bands with fewer (or no) staff cannot make that decision easily. Make one easy decision. Decide to bring me, a Freelance Secretary, into your business/work life together with a lot of plus points ...
  • No need to put me on your permanent payroll
  • Simply pay for the work that I do
  • Work can be done by the hour or day
  • I offer retainer packages with reduced hourly rates
  • All aspects of secretarial and office work covered
  • I bring a lot of experience with me
  • I am a tried and tested method of getting secretarial and admin assistance
  • No job too large or too small - just ask!
  • I offer a free 30 minute consultation, without obligation, when we can discuss all the aspects of any work or project
  • I can either work on site at your office or home or remotely from my own well-equipped home office.

Get in touch with me to see how I can help you with your workload. Make more free time for yourself ... and with the sunshine improving daily this is something I can sure you will relish. Why be trapped at work when you can be in the great outdoors with the grass between your toes? Even the Stone Age people knew the Sun brought life on Earth and that is why they used to worship it. So who are we to try and decide otherwise?

Easter is upon us - but will all your eggs hatch at once?

Did you know that Pagan traditions gave us the English word "Easter" which comes from the word "Eostre". The Anglo-Saxon word for April was "Eostre-monath" (the month of openings). Bede, the English monastic historian, noted that the month was named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess Esostre. Rituals related to the goddess Eostre focus on new beginnings, symbolized by the Easter egg, and fertility, which is symbolized by the hare (or Easter bunny). So now is the time to focus on new beginnings – maybe a beginning to a new outlook on your working life ... maybe utilising the services of a helping hand ... maybe me?

Dont be a sad tiger with your paperwork?

This weekend there are celebrations in London to welcome in the Year of the Tiger. According to the Chinese calendar the 2010 year of the Tiger is passionate, honest and modest. Its a year for changing your mood, being vigorous and hard-working. The Tiger’s motto is “I win” – a good motto.

So be like a tiger at your work, be a winner and change the mood of your working – if your office is taking control of your life rather than you being in control make that change ... don’t be a sad tiger! Contact me and see the changes I can make to your life with my admin and secretarial services! As a Monkey my motto is “I entertain” which, in my mind, goes to prove my love of my job and with that the fact that I entertain all aspects of it.

The Chinese calendar is unlike any that is used in the United Kingdom. It is made up of a cycle of twelve years, each of these years being named after an animal. This is very much like our signs of the zodiac. Various individuals think that people born in a particular year, such as the year of the Dog, will have some of the personalities of that animal. Look at Wikipedia if you want to know about your Chinese year. Over sixty percent of people in the world celebrate Chinese New Year.
Customs differ in various parts of the world, but everywhere the basic idea is somewhat similar. It is a time to remember the family and wish everyone serenity and prosperity in the coming year.
